Vintage collar necklace in the shape of a coiled snake in a 70's revival of Victorian Egyptian Revival style, in a rosy gold color. The head of the snake is set with emerald eyes, with rubies adorning the top of the head, and similarly, the tail has a line of graduated rubies as well. Both pieces are beautifully detailed, engraved with the texture of scales. The body of the snake is made up of a turbogas style chain, flexible and slightly stretchy. Finished with a box clasp in the back for a secure closure. An absolutely beautiful statement piece.

European fascination with ancient Egypt began in the 1800s, in the aftermath of Napoleon's invasion of the area, influencing design trends for over 100 years through the Victorian era and into the Art Deco era. Later in the 1960s and 70s, there was a resurgence of interest in the Victorian period, leading to the creation of Victorian-inspired jewelry pieces such as this one!

FAQs

What is gold karat level?

You'll see in all our descriptions a number and then "k" (ex. 14k, 17k, 12k). This indicates the purity level of the gold in the piece, which is the ratio of other metals to gold in the piece. Pure gold, which is not often used in jewelry because it is softer, is 24k. 14k (which is the most common in the U.S.) is 14 parts gold to 10 parts other metals, making up a total of 24 parts. The purity level is also sometimes conveyed as a percentage (ex. 375, 585, 750).

What does estate/vintage/antique mean?

Vintage refers to pieces that are over 20 years old, while antique refers to pieces over 100 years old. We use "estate" to refer to pre-owned pieces that are less than 20 years old or ones we can't determine an exact age for. Vintage and antique pieces can have imperfections or scratches from being owned and worn before. We do our best to document and make clear any imperfections in our photos and listings, and please ask questions before purchasing if there's anything you are unsure about! Product colors may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor settings, and all measurements are approximate.
