Antique Victorian mourning band, with black enamel contrasting a floral design, engravings all around the band, and initials engraved into the back. The ring opens to reveal an carefully woven band of hair. The craftsmanship of this piece is incredible- from the delicately woven hair to the engraving work on the band, to the tiny hinges that still work perfectly to reveal and conceal the hair work.

Victorians commonly used hair in jewelry, both as a way to commemorate loved ones that had passed as well as a way to wear a reminder of living friends and family. For this piece in particular, the black enamel leads us to believe it was created to commemorate a departed loved one.
