02: Old Cut Diamond Eye Signet

The windows to the soul, a symbol of protection, vigilance, often connected to divinity or higher powers- the motif of the eye has been used by cultures throughout time. 

Signet rings were used as early as 3500 BCE, with symbols representing a family and the individual owner of the ring, for stamping important documents. This classic shape is combined with the eye motif, to create a piece that has a connection to ancient history. The feeling of the piece was an important consideration for us too, so we juxtaposed a knife edge detail extending from the edges of the eye with a curved, comfort fit interior. While it's certainly not sharp as a real knife, we loved the idea of being able to feel the edge on the outside, while the inside of the ring is smooth. 

A reclaimed old European cut diamond, circa 1940s, is set in the center of our eye-inspired signet ring. This diamond was cut in a time with less advanced technology, with an extra culet facet on the bottom of the stone that modern stones no longer have, as it was before the standardization of the modern round brilliant cut. We love these old cut stones for their unique charm, and this one is colorless with good clarity, allowing for beautiful sparkle. Diamond is 0.23 carats, graded VS2 clarity, E color.

This piece is made in 14k yellow gold, and is cast and crafted locally in Los Angeles.
