Amazing antique Art Deco filigree ring (c. 1920s) with diamonds and sapphires in 18k white gold made by Belais, an early manufacturer of white gold alloys in the U.S. that became very well known for their high-quality jewelry. The architectural-inspired details of the setting along with 5 antique-cut diamonds makes this unique ring a sparkly statement!

The ring features 3 larger old European cut diamonds, the precursor to the modern round brilliant cut. These diamonds were carefully cut by hand to maximize weight and sparkle, and are known for their quirks: unlike the perfectly cut diamonds we see today, these have asymmetrical facets and aren't perfectly round. These diamonds sparkle with a lots of inner fire, and have a lot of personality! Vintage collectors often prefer antique cuts like these for their unique charm, as no two diamonds were ever cut the same. The ring also has 2 smaller, single-cut diamonds for extra sparkle! Diamonds total about .29 cts, with SI clarity (older stones tend to have much lower clarity grades than modern stones, but still have lots of sparkle). Finally, 2 triangular sapphires accent the sides with gorgeous, rich blue color (approx. .15 ct).

Top of ring measures approx. 21 mm x 16 mm (.82 in x .62 in)

Marked and tested 18k. In good vintage condition, with expected wear for age.

FAQs

What is gold karat level?

You'll see in all our descriptions a number and then "k" (ex. 14k, 17k, 12k). This indicates the purity level of the gold in the piece, which is the ratio of other metals to gold in the piece. Pure gold, which is not often used in jewelry because it is softer, is 24k. 14k (which is the most common in the U.S.) is 14 parts gold to 10 parts other metals, making up a total of 24 parts. The purity level is also sometimes conveyed as a percentage (ex. 375, 585, 750).

What does estate/vintage/antique mean?

Vintage refers to pieces that are over 20 years old, while antique refers to pieces over 100 years old. We use "estate" to refer to pre-owned pieces that are less than 20 years old or ones we can't determine an exact age for. Vintage and antique pieces can have imperfections or scratches from being owned and worn before. We do our best to document and make clear any imperfections in our photos and listings, and please ask questions before purchasing if there's anything you are unsure about! Product colors may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor settings, and all measurements are approximate.
