A gorgeous vintage mid-century piece in Modernist style, with an amazing firey rainbow opal cabochon in the center and six diamonds accenting the piece, in a setting of textured 14k gold.

Modernist design took inspiration from the natural environment, but unlike earlier movements that also took inspiration from nature, such as Art Nouveau, did it in an abstract way. Later the Brutalist movement would take this to new heights-- with even more abstract, extreme designs that were almost unsettling.

This piece seems to be somewhere between Brutalism and Modernism: the texture of the gold is reminiscent of coral, or a brain, and the opal cabochon has an organic shape. Three vines extend down from the bail, swooping to the left, each ending in a leaf set with a diamond. Bezel set along the bottom right are three more round diamonds, adding a subdued sparkle to the piece. This statement piece is both wearable art and history- beautiful and heavy, with quality craftsmanship giving it a luxurious feel when worn.
