For the Love of Antique Engagement Rings
Nothing symbolizes lasting love quite like an antique engagement ring. Each one is a one-of-a-kind piece, handcrafted in an era when detail was everything: intricate filigree, hand engraving, and old-cut diamonds with a sparkle modern stones can't imitate. Choosing a vintage engagement ring is also the most sustainable choice you can make, since nothing new is mined or made. Our collection is a curated walk through history, and every era brings its own flavor:
- The ornate romance of Victorian engagement rings (1837 to 1901)
- The rare, flowing artistry of Art Nouveau (1890 to 1910)
- Delicate, airy designs of the short-lived Edwardian era (1901 to 1915)
- The bold geometry of Art Deco rings (1910s to 1930s)
What sets antique engagement rings apart
Handcrafted detail. Made one at a time, by hand, with engraving, filigree, and milgrain work that's rarely attempted in contemporary rings.
Old-cut diamonds. Old mine and old European cut diamonds were cut by hand to glow in candlelight. Their soft, fiery sparkle is completely different from modern machine-cut stones.
One of a kind. No two antique engagement rings are ever exactly alike. Your ring will be yours alone.
Inherently sustainable. Nothing is newly mined or manufactured. A vintage engagement ring is the original eco-friendly choice.
A story built in. Every antique ring has already been part of someone's life, and now it becomes part of yours.
Vintage engagement ring styles through the ages
Victorian engagement rings (1837 to 1901). Ornate, romantic, and rich with symbolism: warm gold, hand engraving, old mine cut diamonds, and motifs like snakes, hearts, and crescents that carried hidden meaning.
Art Nouveau rings (1890 to 1910). Flowing, nature-inspired lines and artistic materials from a short-lived movement. Genuine Nouveau rings are among the rarest antiques you can find.
Edwardian engagement rings (1901 to 1915). Delicate, airy platinum work: lace-like filigree, milgrain edges, and old European cut diamonds in all-white settings. Many consider this the technical peak of ring making.
Art Deco engagement rings (1910s to 1930s). Bold geometry, platinum and white gold, and striking contrast: diamonds against onyx, emeralds, and vivid colored stones. The most collected antique ring style there is.

What's the difference between vintage and antique engagement rings?
Antique engagement rings are generally over 100 years old, while vintage engagement rings are roughly 20 to 100 years old. Both offer craftsmanship and character you won't find in new rings; you're really choosing which design era speaks to you. Victorian, Art Nouveau, and Edwardian rings are true antiques, while later Art Deco and mid-century rings fall into vintage territory.
Are the materials authentic to the period?
Yes. Every antique and vintage ring we sell was made in its era, with the metals and stones of its time: warm Victorian gold, Edwardian platinum, hand-cut old mine and old European diamonds. We don't sell reproductions in our vintage collections. If you love the vintage look but want a newly made ring, our studio molimo creations are designed and made in our Los Angeles studio with ethically sourced materials.
Can antique engagement rings be resized?
Often, yes, within a limited range. Plain bands are usually straightforward, while rings with engraving, enamel, delicate filigree, or stones set around the band need extra care and can sometimes only be adjusted slightly. If you have your eye on a specific ring, contact us before you buy and we'll tell you honestly what's possible for that piece.
What are old mine and old European cut diamonds?
The hand-cut ancestors of the modern round brilliant. Old mine cuts (Victorian era) have a cushiony shape, high crown, and large culet. Old European cuts (Edwardian and Deco eras) are rounder, with a smaller table and deep facets. Both were cut to glow in candlelight rather than flash under electric light, giving vintage diamond engagement rings a soft, romantic sparkle that modern stones can't imitate.
Are vintage engagement rings durable enough for everyday wear?
Most are, yes. These rings have already survived a century or more, and platinum Edwardian and Deco settings in particular hold up beautifully. Just treat an antique ring with common sense: take it off for heavy hands-on work and the gym, and have the settings checked every year or two. Ask us about any specific ring and we'll tell you honestly how it wears.
Are antique engagement rings a sustainable choice?
They're about as sustainable as fine jewelry gets. Choosing an antique or vintage engagement ring means no new mining and no new manufacturing: the ring already exists, made to a standard that has lasted a hundred years. It's a meaningful way to reduce environmental impact while wearing something no one else has.
How do you verify age and authenticity?
Construction techniques, cut styles, hallmarks, and materials all date a ring. We examine every piece before it enters the collection and note the age, condition, and any old repairs or restoration in the listing. Curious how it's done? We write about dating and evaluating antiques in our vintage jewelry handbook.
Why buy your vintage engagement ring from molimo?
Because we handle every ring ourselves. Our collection combines curated antique and vintage jewelry with pieces designed in our Los Angeles studio, and everything we source is examined for construction, materials, condition, and period before it's listed. We describe what we find honestly, including any old repairs, and we're happy to answer questions about any ring before you buy. Start with our new arrivals or browse all rings.
