A pair of engine-turned three leaf clovers fall right under the earlobe in these elegant vintage drop earrings, suspended from fish hooks with safety clasps. Each leaf has a little flower bud in the center, emerging from a stem at the bottom.

In addition to the beautiful design, the hallmarks of these earrings reflect an interesting bit of history: they are marked with a five-pointed star with a hammer and sickle which was the gold mark of the USSR from 1958-1994. Next to the hammer and sickle is an "R" for Riga, Latvia, where the gold was assayed. These are also marked "583" instead of "585" which we usually see, reflecting the alloys used in the Soviet era which were 58.3% gold instead of 58.5%, and with a more pinkish color than yellow gold usually has. The other marks represent the maker and year, which we were unable to find more information on, but we estimate these earrings are from the 1960s-70s.

Marked "583", and tested. Comes in a pair. In good condition.

Weight: 4.0 g

FAQs

What is gold karat level?

You'll see in all our descriptions a number and then "k" (ex. 14k, 17k, 12k). This indicates the purity level of the gold in the piece, which is the ratio of other metals to gold in the piece. Pure gold, which is not often used in jewelry because it is softer, is 24k. 14k (which is the most common in the U.S.) is 14 parts gold to 10 parts other metals, making up a total of 24 parts. The purity level is also sometimes conveyed as a percentage (ex. 375, 585, 750).

What does estate/vintage/antique mean?

Vintage refers to pieces that are over 20 years old, while antique refers to pieces over 100 years old. We use "estate" to refer to pre-owned pieces that are less than 20 years old or ones we can't determine an exact age for. Vintage and antique pieces can have imperfections or scratches from being owned and worn before. We do our best to document and make clear any imperfections in our photos and listings, and please ask questions before purchasing if there's anything you are unsure about! Product colors may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor settings, and all measurements are approximate.
